Administrative Information

Enrolment

The College has an Open Evening on 27th June when prospective pupils and their caregivers are invited to look over the College and to hear about the College's activities and courses. The completed enrolment application form, available from the College office, should be returned to the College by the end of Friday 3rd July. In November enrolment interviews are conducted and provide an opportunity to discuss the curriculum, extra-curricular activities and individual student needs. These interviews are arranged by mail to parents or caregivers.

Uniform

Girls and boys each have a junior and senior summer and winter uniform, which may be purchased from The Haberdashery in the Main Street of Pahiatua, or from the second-hand uniform shop at the College (operated by The Tararua College Parent Association) that is open by appointment. Please contact the College Office 376 8344.

See the bottom of the page for comprehensive uniform requirements. The school is currently undertaking a uniform review, and any recommendations made will be implemented in 2010.

Fees

Annual College Fee:
Accounts will be issued to all parents near the start of the school year for the School Donation of $60 ($50 if paid in Term 1), maximised at $120 for two or more students. This fee is essential if the College is to provide a full range of equipment and educational, cultural, sporting and social activities.
The College offers payment options such as internet banking and automatic payment. There are various trust funds which senior students needing assistance may apply to, such as the Tararua College Education Trust. This Trust also regularly makes available funds to purchase equipment from which all students will benefit.
If you wish to discuss any of the options available for meeting educational costs please contact the Executive Officer.

Subject/Activity Costs:
The costs for doing any of the individual curriculum subjects offered are contained in the individual subject descriptors in the College Subject Options booklet. These fees provide departmental materials, homework books and equipment specific to the subject taken, and are due by the end of Term 2. Any other stationery/classroom material requirements are notified in the first few days of the new school year. Texts are often lent on the condition that any loss or damage will be reimbursed.
Education outside the classroom/sport/cultural/social activity costs are dependent on subject or activity choice. Sports fees generally include costs for uniforms, registration fees, ground fees and weekly transport costs.

NCEA Fees:
Entry for all NQF standards and up to three scholarship subjects is $75. Additional Scholarship entries are $75 per subject. Payment is due by the end of August

Attendance

The College has legal requirements to meet with respect to the attendance of its students. It also has an obligation to know at all times, in case of an emergency event, who is in attendance.
If attendance at the College is unavoidable, parents should telephone the school absence line and leave a message. If this is not possible, students should hand in a dated explanatory note to their Form Teacher.
No student may leave the College grounds during school hours (including lunch hours) unless a note or other suitable explanation has been approved beforehand. Students who need to leave early or go to an appointment must get their note explaining why they are leaving early signed by one of the Deputy Principals.
Students who arrive at school late must sign in at the main office. A dated explanatory note is required to be received by the College.

Transport and Bus Travel

Students may drive a car or travel in one driven by another student if they first get a pass issued by the College. The College is anxious that no parent should be unaware that their children were coming to the College by car.
Students travelling free by bus have a bus assigned to them and they are allowed to travel only on that bus.

Personal Property

All property should be clearly and permanently marked with the student's name. Valuables or money can be handed in to the College office for safe keeping. Student lockers are available at a cost of $30 per year (plus a $10 refundable key deposit).
Cell phones are not to be brought to the College.

Emergencies

The College has developed a comprehensive plan to handle any major emergency (fire, earthquake, chemical spill, etc.) occurring in school time. In the event of such an emergency being confined to the College grounds, students would be retained at school until 3.15pm as usual.
In the event of a major event, where roads were impassable and damage/injuries had been sustained in the community, students would be retained and cared for at the College until picked up by a parent or guardian, however long this took.
In the event of the College grounds or buildings being unusable for any reason and students needing cover, the entire student body would be removed either to the Pahiatua Town Hall, the Pahiatua Community Church hall, or the Pahiatua New Life Centre hall (depending upon the conditions prevailing after the emergency).
