The 1st XV Rugby team played a pre season game against Kuranui College last Tuesday after school, and came away with a well deserved 24 to 10 win. ![]() Lineout action from the pre season rugby game against Kuranui College |
In the last fortnight every student has been asked to read, sign and return the Tararua College Sports Contract. The contract is built around the concept of social responsibility, and continues a theme that the College is building on, that one thing we are able to control is our own behaviour. Students are able to apply themselves not only in the school environment, but they will prove to be good ambassadors for the College on the sports field. Not only does the contract re-enforce expectations held in school, but also should decisions go against them on the field, they are able to respond appropriately under the concept held by all sporting codes of 'playing hard/playing fair' and accepting the decisions of the match officials. The second to last week of term was very busy. Monday began with the whole school attending the Holden Road Safety presentation in the hall, and then a group of students attended a workshop in a Computer Lab where an interactive simulation on road safety and awareness was held. The parent teacher evening for the interim reports was well attended on April 1st and on Friday new staff to Tararua College and Pahiatua school were welcomed with a powhiri and hangi. ![]() The group of helpers for the hangi Fifi Colston visited last Wednesday and spoke to our senior students about working in the creative arts. Fifi, who is a writer, illustrator, script-writer, television presenter and a regular WOW designer, entertained the groups by reading extracts from her children's books and showing examples of her illustrations for picture books, school journals and advertising. She brought along her design workbooks and several Wearable Arts exhibits for the students to see up close, and described the construction techniques and how she came up with her concepts. Fifi also told stories of working at Weta Workshop and on 'Jane and the Dragon' as a script-writer. She was a very entertaining and motivating speaker and those who attended the three one hour sessions learnt a lot about challenging yourself creatively. ![]() FiFi the 'Furbee' and Year 11 Caron Purvis models 'Sophia's Story' based on the Tarawera eruption The Week at Tararua Column will take a two week break for the holiday period.
