Tararua College Happenings, Week 10, Term 2, 2008 As the end of term approaches the activity around the school always seems to increase frenetically. A major contributor to this, for the students, is the Senior Ball, which was held in the College hall on the last Saturday in June, and for the staff the writing of mid-year reports for all students is always good for a bit of extra stress! ![]() Action from the Ball, where the theme was 'Viva Las Vegas' The last week of school was packed with many events. The Tararua College Career Expo 2008 was on Wednesday evening involving about 50 stalls. Mrs Teekman has spent a large amount of time coordinating this huge event for the school and the community to ensure our students and adults have all the information they need to shape their future career path. Also there was a performance for the whole School by the Tauranga Boys' College jazz band, on tour with former Tararua HOD Music John Page. The Star lab also set up at Tararua for a day when all Year 9 science classes were able to tour our night skies. Mid-year school reports for all students were posted at the end of Term and the follow up report afternoon/evening for all Year levels will be held on Thursday July 24th from 4-8pm. ![]() A group of Year 9 students before entering the Star Lab dome |
On Thursday 26th June the Tararua College Music Department held their annual winter recital. The event showcased the many talents of our Music students. There were performances in a range of styles including classical, jazz, pop and Latin American music. The students performed brilliantly and were well supported by the community. Recently our Year 11 Geography Team had a huge success in a regional competition. The team of Sam Tylee, Lauren Nyhan and Brendon Matthews were the winners of the Manawatu-Wanganui round of the Maatangi-Whenua Competition. It involved most secondary schools from the regions and participants faced ten challenges ranging from NCEA Level One Geography skills to Landform modeling to general geographic knowledge. Their success in winning the competition was an excellent achievement. ![]() The victorious Year 11 Geography team: Sam Tylee, Lauren Nyhan and Brendon Matthews The college sports teams will be looking forward to their two week reconditioning programme (the holidays) coming up. Our unbeaten First XI Boys' Football team has made a great start to the season and the Girls' B Hockey team celebrated a fine 5-0 victory over a PNGHS team in the last week of term.
