TARARUA COLLEGE HAPPENINGS, WEEK 10, TERM 2, 2010

As we approach the end of term, activity seems to pick up to a frenetic pace.
The ball committee was in full swing last week, setting up the hall in the 1920’s theme for the big occasion on Saturday.
The music trip was on their four-day tour of the central North Island, and a group of Gateway students were on a three-day first aid course to gain their First Aid Certificate, which will enable them to carry out basic first aid. The course was facilitated by Mr Leigh, who recently gained his instructors qualifications. Tuesday was a half-day for students as staff attended a teacher-only day in the afternoon, based around restorative practice meetings.

In assembly last week two of our Japanese exchange students, Saori Fukui and Risako Yamada, were farewelled. Both spoke confidently to the whole School about how they had enjoyed their time at Tararua College. They had made the most of their opportunities, had been on various School trips, and had made many friends. When they return to Japan they go straight back to school, but get to enjoy the summer holiday break in three weeks time.

Last weekend was another strong one for our netball teams. Senior A won 42 – 10 against Nga Tawa and Senior B held on to beat PNGHS by 27 – 23.
The Year 9 team had a decisive 34 – 15 win over Freyberg and 10A also recorded a win.
Girls’ Hockey lost 2 – 0, with goalie Emily Munford having a strong game and making some brilliant saves to keep the score line down.
Boys’ Hockey had a close game losing to PNBHS 3 – 2.
In the last week of school we look forward to the inter-class Kapa Haka competition to be held on Tuesday.
