Classes, and all associated activities, are quickly back in full swing. We had two teams involved in games during the holidays. Our Girls' Football team had their first two games, and came away with a good win and a loss. The 1st XV played in their annual Easter Rugby Tournament in Levin. The team finished with two losses but performed creditably. Tuesday was the day for the whole School to participate in the Inter-House Cross Country Championship. The course was set out in the immediate vicinity of the School and School Farm and conditions were warm and dry. Some very impressive performances were seen. Individual winners were: Under 14 Girls: Hannah Field Under 14 Boys: Conor Davey Junior Girls: Lysanah Giles Junior Boys: Sam McPeak and Troy Davey Intermediate Girls: Rebekah O'Hagan Intermediate Boys: Michael McKnight Senior Girls: Lynelle Foothead Senior Boys: John Beech |

At right is the eventual U14 Girls winner Hannah Field Also on Tuesday, a group of mainly Gateway students participated in a Site Safety course in Palmerston North. This qualification allows them to work on any construction site in New Zealand. Wednesday afternoon saw the whole school treated to a very entertaining, high energy performance of scenes from Othello put on by The Ugly Shakespeare Company as part of their nationwide school tour. It was a very polished show and our students participated enthusiastically in the interactive aspects of the performance. On Thursday evening we had a group of junior and senior students performing in the One Act Play Festival Theatre in the Bush held at our local theatre. To finish the week off, the Year 12 and 13 PE students travelled to Wellington on Friday evening to watch a Super 14 match as part of their programme. They also visited the Rugby Union headquarters and no doubt checked out their trophy cabinet. This week we have our Year 12 Geographers out on their annual Waitomo field trip and the senior Rural Studies students are on their trip to Central Otago. Also good luck to all of our students who are nominees in the Tararua Sports Person of the Year Awards 2009 to be held in the Dannevirke Town Hall this Friday.
