Tararua College Happenings, Week 1, Term 3, 2008 WELCOME BACK to Term 3. We are all rested, recharged and ready to go for the next ten weeks. Don't forget about the Report Evening coming up, this Thursday, July 24th, from 4 - 8 pm in the College hall. Are you uncertain about Achievement Standards, Unit Standards, credits and literacy/numeracy requirements? At the Report Evening there will be a presentation explaining the mysteries of NCEA. Staff will be available to answer any questions you may have. Advice on revision and study for all year levels will also be available, along with helpful extras such as revision planners and timetables. Welcome back to the College Rugby 1st XV from their trip to Australia in the holidays. A full report is coming up soon. Good luck to all sports teams for their first games this weekend. The Boys' Hockey 1st X1 are nearing the start of their knockout games after a successful beginning to their season. Livestock Improvement held their annual Minda Farm Computer Software Upgrade And Tutorial Day for local dairy farmers in the College computer suite in the first week of the holidays. There was a very good turn out of about twenty people and we are very pleased to host this event at the College annually. At 7 pm on 20 June, Tararua College held the third Lip Sync Competition in the hall. There were performances by bands such as: The Backstreet Boys, Channel Four News Team, Grease, The White Tails, Flight of the Concords, Candy Girls, Van and Munter, and plenty more. Four students from St Anthony's were special guests; Charlotte Gilmore with Hannah Montana, Flynn and Gina Roache with High School Musical, and Christopher Arbuthnott, Saint Anthony's winner, with Way Down South by the Hamilton County Bluegrass Band. ![]() 2008 Lip Sync winners 'The White Tails': Ben Cotter-Dephoff, Andrew Cornford, Ken Metekingi and Sam Cotter-Dephoff |
Even some of the teachers got into it with Waterloo by Abba. All the performers did a great job and it would have been a hard choice for judges, Allan Wilton, Moana Young and David Shanhun. Third place went to The Backstreet Boys winning $50. Second place was won by Flight of the Concords winning $100, and first place was won by The White Tails, with their number 'Float On', winning $200 between them. Over all it was an awesome night and everybody enjoyed themselves. We can't wait till next years show. Saturday the 28th June was the date for the social event of the year, the Tararua College Senior Ball. The theme this year was 'Viva Las Vegas', and the Ball Committee did a fabulous job transforming the hall into a Vegas casino, complete with restaurant, gaming tables and, of course, the dance floor. The night was a great success, with everyone enjoying a delicious meal and having the opportunity to try their luck on the four gaming tables. Our fantastic DJ Harry Leatherby kept the dance floor humming. A huge thank you to the Ball Committee for all of their hard work in the weeks prior to the event. Roll on Senior Ball 2009, as this year's event will be talked about for a long time to come.
