Tararua College Happenings, Week 1, Term 4, 2009

Term 4 has kicked off and the countdown is on for the seniors. Practice exams for the NCEA Externals are under way this week, and then it is back to school for another two and a half weeks before senior prize-giving on November 11th, and senior study leave the following day. The term is a very hectic one for our seniors, and it is an essential time for them to settle into a routine incorporating some serious structured revision for the final examinations.

The first week back at school was a busy one for students, with interruptions kept to a minimum and no trips away during school time. Preparing for the practice exams the following week was the main priority for our seniors.

Level 1 and 2 Visual Art students are working towards completing their portfolios for submission for NCEA. Their folios will be on display in the Art Room from 3pm to 5 pm for any one interested in coming and having a look. Level 1 is on Wednesday October 21st, and Level 2 is the following Wednesday, October 28th.

Also in the first week, on Friday, the English Department held their annual Shakespeare Day festivities. This day is used as a final revision for the Shakespeare questions in the final Level 3 English NCEA examination.

The Jubilee Committee is pleased with the progress being made with people registering for the Jubilee in Easter of next year. There is a growing number of people coming from Australia, some from the UK, and from the USA, so we hope that locals (the Bush District and all of New Zealand are included in this) will get behind this occasion and be there for our visitors, many of whom have not been back to Pahiatua for many years. We look forward to receiving registrations from those who have kept the home fires burning in our local area.

Jubilee preparations are well under way. Here is a brief report from the Tararua College Jubilee Committee 2010
We are looking for help in a lot of areas and would like to have people on board now to be ready for Easter next year. If you are interested in meeting and greeting people on the registration desk, please let us know. If you would like to help our Inspiration Tour group with some catering, please contact Mrs Lisa Purda at the College on 06 376 8344. We can always do with helpers during the Jubilee for guiding people around the College, for information, for setting up, and for cleaning up afterwards. If you want to volunteer for this major event in the life of Tararua College, please contact the College Office on 06 376 8344 and a Committee member will make contact with you.
The programme for the weekend will be out shortly with events and costs. So make up a team for sports, or for singing or entertaining on Saturday April 3rd, 2010. We look forward to seeing you here. A number of people have enquired about old photos, especially of school dances. If you have any photographs that would be of interest that you would like to share at the Jubilee, please contact the College.

A blast from the past...1963 in fact. Can you name these Tararua College students and their teacher?

Ball photos are on display at the College in the Conference Room and Staffroom windows. If parents/grandparents want to make orders, they can do so at the Printroom. Prints are $2 each.
