Profile Of The Week

Matthew Percy

This week we profile Year 12 student Matthew Percy. Matthew is a talented hockey player and has been a member of the School First X1 hockey team since Year 9. He is also a member of the College Guitar Ensemble. Next January he is embarking on a six month AFS Exchange to La Chapelle sur Erdre in the Loire Valley, France. He is staying with a family in the town and will be attending the local secondary college where speaking French fluently will be a goal to work towards! He is really looking forward to the experience and we wish him well in his travels.

It was back to work for senior students as they prepare for their final exams commencing on November 16th.

On Wednesday October 28th our senior Drama students held a showcase evening in the Drama Suite. Year 11 was in two groups and each performed a one act play. The Year 12 students performed a soap opera that they had written themselves, while a Year 13 group performed a monologue they had also written themselves.

Another Year 13 group performed a script they had written based on life experiences in the region. A good number of the community attended and the students enjoyed showing off their dramatic tendencies.

A group of music students attended the Wairarapa Solo Music competition at Rathkeale on Thursday October 29th, performing in the singing and piano disciplines.

Over Labour weekend, two of our Year 9 students, Peter Skinner and Angel Harrison, represented their local Tararua Kyokoshu Karate Club in the Napier Friendship Karate Tournament. Peter, a Yellow Belt (Green Tip) finished second in the 14-17 year Colts division, while Angel, also a Yellow Belt, finished second in her Junior Girls division.

The College had four rugby teams this year, and all teams had successful seasons with the U 15's acquitting themselves well to make the Finals Day. These achievements, combined with excellent on the field discipline, reflected the efforts of the teams, coaches and supporters.
