The Year 9 parents evening was held last Wednesday evening. There was an excellent turnout of parents and care givers attending the information evening. All of the senior Management team spoke, as well as the guidance counsellor, careers advisor and the year level deans. We look forward to working with you and your children for their future time at Tararua.

Olivia Bollard, a Year 13 student in 2008, gained an NZQA Scholarship qualification in the 2008 external examinations. Her award was in soft material technologies (Textiles). She designed and made a tutu that could be adapted to portray three separate dance characters. In 2009 she is attending Massey University School of Fashion in Wellington.

From the beginning of this week through to the start of Term 4, our HOD Physical Education, Jenny Searle, will be on study leave to complete her Masters in Education degree, not surprisingly majoring in teaching and learning.

Tararua College has been a member of the WeLCom (Wairarapa eLearning Community) cluster of schools since its development in 2004. Online video conferencing courses have been available to our students for the last 3 years and we have had students enrolled in Music, Computing, Equine, Agriculture, French, Physics, Media Studies, Statistics and Calculus over this time. Students have also been able to sit in on video conferences from Te Papa, the Ministry of Education and also the All Blacks - before their departure to the last World Cup. A group of our students also participate in the monthly regional Gifted and Talented video conference. Staff are able to make use of the video conferencing facilities to confer and collaborate with other teachers in our cluster and from around the country.

The weather finally played the game and allowed us to run our 'all in' athletics day last Wednesday. The theme of the day was participation, with all competitors in events accumulating house points. Competition was fierce and the atmosphere on the field was very supportive. The interhouse athletics will follow soon, then it is on to the regional intersecondary athletic competitions for our budding Olympians.
