Last Tuesday, a group of 7 senior students, accompanied by our Careers Adviser, Mrs Els Teekman, visited the Senior Secondary School Maori Careers Day held at the Highbury Whanau Centre in Palmerston North. Our students enjoyed the day and found it very informative. During School assembly on Wednesday our Students Against Driving Drunk (SADD) committee showed the school a very sobering video outlining the effects of an accident that was caused by a drunk driver. Following on from this was a musical item from School rock band Efekt. The band is defending its award, won last year, in the up-coming Smoke Free Rockquest, to be held in Masterton Town Hall on Friday June 12th at 7.30pm. The School has three bands entered in the competition and it is shaping up to be a great night. Alternative-rock band EFEKT: Harry Leatherby-lead guitar and backup vocals David Harvey-bass guitar John Beech-rhythm guitar & lead vocals Georgia MacDonald-drums Sports results from last weekend were a mixed bag. Weather conditions were extremely cold and teams are looking forward to a break this long weekend. Senior B netball had a good win over a PNGHS team 23-9. Our Girls' Rugby team who play in a combined team with St Peter's College have had two games. One resulted in a narrow defeat to Feilding High and the second was a win over Kuranui College. U15 Rugby had a good win over Feilding, while Boys First X1 Hockey had a good win over St Peters, 2-1. The North Island Secondary Schools swimming Championships were held recently in Palmerston North. 53 schools sent swimmers making for a strong day of competition. Year 10 student Kathryn Pound represented Tararua College with a magnificent 1st place in the U14 50 metre butterfly and 4th place in the U 14 100 butterfly.
