Profile of the week

This week we profile Year 13 student Toyah Harding. Toyah has been a member of the School Forum for the last four years, and is the current student representative on the Board of Trustees. She is also very involved with sport, coaching the Junior A Girls' Basketball team, and is captain of both the Senior A Netball and Girls' Basketball teams.

Last week in assembly the School was given a sneak preview by Aivale Cole of what to expect at her 3pm afternoon Concert at the Regent Theatre in Palmerston North on September 20th. We enjoyed hearing about her rise to fame, and were blown away by her stunning soprano voice. She spent the afternoon in the School chatting to the students going on the Inspiration Tour to Italy and Dubai to which she is donating the profits from her Concert.

Also in assembly the Year 10 winners of the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince design competition were named and presented with their prizes. The screening of this film is at the Pahiatua Regent Theatre at 5.30pm this Thursday, August 27th, and is a fundraiser for our Parents Association. Tickets are $8 and are available from The Haberdashery and College printroom.

The parent Option Evening held at the College last Wednesday was very informative to those who attended, and many questions were answered and some mysteries about the NCEA qualification explained.

This week on Friday 28th August at 7pm in the hall, the Music Department is hosting their annual Variety Concert. There is talent galore on show, with styles ranging from Rock and Jazz through to Reggae. Tickets are $5, and all profits from the evening will go towards the Inspiration Italy Tour fund.

The inter-House Singstar Competition was concluded last Wednesday at lunchtime. Over three days, teams of four from each House sung their hearts out to win glory for their House, the eventual winner being Totara.This event was organized by House captains, and Emma Holmes said the event went very smoothly with all participants and spectators enjoying the opportunity.

The inter-House Maths Competition to round off Maths Week was won by the Matai team: Emma Holmes, Sophie Pettit, Janatan Holm, Dylan Steminger and Gabrielle Mudford.

Sports results from the last weekend featured our netball teams, with the Senior A's playing off for the final in their next game, 10A winning their Grade and playing off for the final this coming weekend, and also the 9A Team having a big win. The U15 Boys' Rugby lost their hard fought final game 10 - 15.
