Tararua College Happenings, Week 5, Term 4, 2009

Tararua College 50th Annual Senior Prize-Giving, November 11th 2009

After many weeks of hectic preparation ably headed by Elizabeth Prentice, the Senior Prize-Giving was held in the College hall on November 11th. The evening turned out to be a little cooler than in previous years which made for more pleasant conditions in the hall. It was a full house and an extensive array of gleaming silverware and awards were presented to the students.
As in the past, former students of the College were invited to present these awards. New Zealand Women's Rugby League player Maia Tua Davidson presented the Sports Awards and top Massey Business School graduate Owen McCool presented the Academic Awards. As well as the annual reports by the Principal, Glynis De Castro and the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Ann Beech, several items from students were included in the line-up. Artists were: The Trill Seekers performing Sweet Child 'o' Mine, Lauren Nyhan singing Bubbly and the Swing Set playing Summertime. These items gave the audience a glimpse of some of the talents our students display during their time at Tararua College.

The evening was a fitting finale to celebrate the achievements of all our senior students both in and out of the classroom for 2009.

The Year 13 students at Tararua College had their formal dinner in the School cafe on Thursday 5th November. This was a formal evening, where students and their parents get to review the year, the evening was a lot of fun.
Mr Pester, who is our resident camera-man, had DVD clips playing Year 13 students' past performances on the stage. He also had photos of the Year 13 students when they were Year 9s...gorgeous! Pulled out of the archives were memories of past athletics, swimming, School productions and social events - all good for a laugh.
Nicola Death spoke on behalf of the Year 13 students. She outlined the activities of the year, and thanked the senior leadership team and Year 13 staff for their commitment.
Mr Ngatuere, Mr Pester and the Year 13 Dean, Miss Sheridan, held their own awards ceremony for the Year 13 students. Awards included Most 'Interesting' Uniform, 'Mr and Mrs Late', 'Most Elusive Student', 'Over-Achiever Award', 'Social Conscience Award', 'Dancer of the Year Award' and 'Teamwork Award', along with many others.
Thanks must go to the Year 13 parents for their support all year and for sharing the evening with us. Thanks must also go to Mrs Lea and Mrs Gilmore for the beautiful dinner, and thank you Year 13 of 2009 for a wonderful evening.
