Tararua College Happenings, Week 6, Term 1, 2010

Last week saw our Taisei visitors say their farewells to the College. Among other events a group of students expressed their thanks by way of a song to the School assembly on Thursday morning. We wish them a safe trip home and have enjoyed learning more of their culture.

On Friday March 5th, Year 9 students from 9WN and 9MI took part in the Westpac sponsored 'River Bank Clean Up'. They went both north and south from the Town bridge armed with rubbish bags and wearing high visibility clothing. It was a very productive exercise in promoting our awareness of the environment.

Coaches
Tararua College needs coaches for a number of our winter sports teams. The sports are played at varying times during the week (not just weekends) and run throughout Term 2 and Term 3. If you are interested in coaching basketball, hockey, soccer, netball or rugby, please contact Miss Searle or Ms Arends at the College.

Tararua Art students are working hard to make their dreams come true. While many people have said it can't be done, the 'Dream Team' have worked tirelessly to fundraise to achieve their goal of travelling to Italy via Dubai in 2011. Their latest project is the 'Italy House'.
"I am so proud of the Dream Team students. They are working every week after school and every weekend fundraising to earn money to go to Italy. They have really stepped up this year as they realise that only hard work will realise their dreams." says Mrs Purda, their teacher.
Their latest project is renovating a house. The group has been given the opportunity to work on renovating a house in Pahiatua. When it is sold, all profit from the project will go to the group. The students, their families and supporters, have sanded, painted, built fences, weeded and mowed lawns. They have had certified tradespeople offer their help to rewire, plumb and build on this project. It has been great. The group hope to sell the house for a fair price and hopefully make some money for their fundraising efforts in the process. Whoever buys this home will be helping students achieve their dreams and also will have a beautiful home. So if you are interested in finding out more about the 'Italy House' and are in the market to purchase a newly renovated home, please call Tammy Shannahan at Property Brokers in Pahiatua.
