Last week the College hosted visits from local primary school's Year 8 students. They visited various Departments in the School and participated in some hands-on workshops. Following on from these visits is the College Open Evening which is being held this Wednesday, June 17th, beginning at 7pm in the College Cafe. Student Forum members will be guiding groups of parents and students around the School to meet Heads of Departments for a quick outline of programmes being offered. Groups will all meet back in the Cafe around 8.30 for supper and an opportunity to ask any questions. Please feel free to come along and have a look at our School.

College musicians have been preparing for the Smokefree Rockquest competition, held last Friday night in Masterton. Also on the horizon we have a group of students embarking on a road trip, taking in Waihi College, Tauranga Boys' College and Te Puke High School. The trip is from June 21st to June 24th and consists of our two Jazz Bands, the Concert Band and vocal artists. All concerned are looking forward to playing at different venues and the experience.

Last week a group of students represented Tararua College at the Manu Korero Speech Competition held at Hato Paora College. Stephany Walker spoke very well, and did especially well in the impromptu section. Ashden-Rose Hemopo of Year 10 finished a very creditable 3rd overall in her section. Our participating students were fine ambassadors for our College.

Four Year 11 students have made it through to the second round of the Australasian Brain Bee Challenge to be held in Auckland on June 15th and 16th. There is an individual and a group challenge, and to get there our students scored in the top 5% of participants in Round 1, which is an outstanding achievement in itself.

Sports results from last weekend were evenly spread with some very close results. Senior A Netball narrowly lost 21 - 22 to Feilding Senior A2, while 10A netball beat Feilding 10B 26 - 8. Girls Football lost to Feilding, with Rachel Telford as Player of the Day, and Boys First X1 Football beat Awatapu Firsts 4 - 2. Under 15 Rugby beat St Peters 17 - 0 while the U 14 narrowly lost to PNBHS 15 - 12. The combined Tararua College and St Peters Girls Rugby team have had two big wins recently, the first over Feilding 55 - 0, and then over PNGHS 50 - 0.
