Tararua College Happenings, Week 8, Term 3, 2008
Now that the rain has stopped, for a while at least, and the sun is out, everybody is looking forward to Spring Fever Week celebrations, later in the term here at the College. The Boys' Hockey team made a great start to their tournament last week by winning their first four games to make the top 4 playoffs, but 5 players at this time were ill. While we have sports teams away this week at their tournament venues, the varied activities continue here at base camp. The Landbased Training Interschool Agriculture Competition was held at the Bush Multisport Stadium this year, due to the ground conditions at the Tararua College farm. Nine teams were involved from Wairarapa College, Longburn Adventist College, Awatapu College, Waiopehu College and Tararua College. Not surprisingly the day was wet and miserable but all the competitors enjoyed themselves. Tasks included ATV and tractor driving, electric and conventional fencing, stock handling, wool and hand piece, health and safety and general knowledge. Tararua College had a very successful day with the A-team first ahead of the Wairarapa College A-team and the B-team third. The first two teams will now participate in the finals at Hunterville in October. Thanks to all those who came to support the Musicians who performed in the Tararua College Music Concert on Friday 29th August. The evening was a great showcase for the wide variety of musical talent at the School. It also helped to raise funds for the music trip to Australia later this month. Recently, senior Science students throughout New Zealand took part in the Otago Senior Science Quiz. Congratulations go to Louise Carr (Year 13) and Amanda Rolston (Year 12), both of whom won fifty dollars after gaining Merit Level Certificates. Our Year 10 Science classes have been involved in hot air balloons construction, with one group's balloon, thought lost forever, delivered back thanks to the guys at Beaurepairs. Tararua College is now taking enrolments for 2009. For a prospectus and enrolment details contact us on 376-8344 or admin@tararuacollege.school.nz. Please have the completed forms to the College office by the end of October. For further information on this column or about Tararua College events please email amcknight@tararuacollege.school.nz |
