Classes were a bit depleted last week with a sports exchange, a music trip, and the usual winter ills claiming a few victims. We also had visitors in the School, from universities around the Country, talking to our Year 13 students about what they had to offer them for next year. Somewhere in all of this was Ball Fever, with last minute preparations being made for the big event held last Saturday night.

Year 11 Students Keeley Hutchins, Caron Purvis, Andrew Galloway and Jason Carr all made it through to round two of the Brain Bee Challenge held on June 16th at Auckland University's Medical School. These students all ranked in the top 5% of students in round one. Andrew and Jason qualified for the individual and team events while Keeley and Caron qualified for the team event. While they didn't get anywhere on the day, they did get to visit the Anatomy Museum with all the diseased and damaged body parts (including a whole arm), and they also got to play with the equipment in the Neuroscience labs at the Medical School.

It was an early start last Tuesday for three bus loads of students taking part in the annual Sports Exchange with Newlands College in Wellington. Students competed in netball, football, rugby, basketball and hockey. The competition was very strong with the Senior A Netball winning, Girls A Hockey drawing, and Boys Football losing narrowly 1 - 0, being our best results. The students really enjoyed their day and all performed creditably both on and off the field.

Last weekend saw great results for our rugby teams with wins to the 1st XV 19 - 14 over Horowhenua, the U15 over PNBHS 27 - 26 and the Girls team 85 - 21 over PNGHS. The Boys Football team had a close game with PNBHS before going down 2 - 1, and Boys Hockey drew 3 - 3 with Feilding High. Senior A Netball had a 38 - 14 win over Feilding HS and 10A defeated Turakina MGC 39 - 8. 9B Netball had a very good 28 - 6 victory over St Peters, while 9A Netball have won their last two games, 28 - 6 over Nga Tawa and 22 - 20 over Feilding.
Our grateful thanks go to all of the coaches of College sports teams for all of their efforts so far this season. It has been a great start and we look forward to next term. Without your volunteered services our sports programme would not exist.

On June 30th there will be a short recital in the Music Suite for piano and woodwind students. On the following night there will be a singing and guitar ensemble recital. Friends and family of these students are welcome to attend these free events. Each evening will begin at 7pm and run for approximately one hour. Come along and support the students.
