TARARUA COLLEGE HAPPENINGS, WEEK 9, TERM 4, 2010
LONG STANDING TEACHER RETIRES

Mr Arthur Forster came to Tararua College in June 1993 to take the position of Head of the Science Department. With a reputation as an excellent classroom teacher, Arthur came to us from Lincoln High School in the South Island.
In the time Arthur has been at Tararua College he has been fully involved in the life and culture of the School, both inside and outside the classroom.
His specialist subject and great passion is Chemistry, and since his time here many students have benefited from his expertise in this area. Despite health issues, Arthur’s first priority has always been towards his students and especially his senior Chemistry classes, and staff and students alike hold a great deal of respect and admiration for him doing so.
His other area of expertise was in the establishment of the school timetable at the end of each year, and his countless hours in this area have been valued by all staff over the years.

Some of the many other areas that Arthur has been involved in and contributed to are:
Bush Science Network
BP Technology Challenge
Science Fairs
Fishing elective
Chair of Assessment Committee
Working with College in setting up Agriculture/Rural Studies
Australian Chemistry Quiz
Acting Assistant Principal for a period of several weeks
Specialist Classroom Teacher
Staff Rep on Board of Trustees
Arthur has noticed that there have been many changes over the years, not only in staff but also in technology and the endless paperwork that needs to be done now.
Some seventeen years later Arthur has decided to retire due to ill health. Thank you Arthur for all that you have given to the students and staff at Tararua College.
2011
We are pleased to report that planning for 2011 is well underway.
The Year 9 classes will be small, and even though there is a smaller intake next year, we intend keeping four Year 9 classes again. As in the past we will continue to have an extension class at Years 9 and 10.
We will also continue offering extra support for students using our new Lexia Programme. Once again in 2011 we will endeavour to offer individualised programmes to meet students' needs, particularly for the gifted and talented and students with special learning needs.
We are looking forward to another productive and successful year in 2011.
Don’t forget, if you haven’t already enrolled your Year 8 student, call the College office to make the necessary arrangements to do so.
