Year 9 Visual Art
Year 9 students are currently learning about colour theory and painting techniques. They have just completed a pencil shading unit based on Maori patterns.
Pictured below are some students from 9MN in Ms Cotter's class. They are painting colour wheels and also practicing blending their colours with other tone such as black and white to make the colour lighter and darker. This technique will then be used in creating some 3D effects in still life painting.
Year 10 Visual Art
Year 10 students kicked off the year challenging their minds to think outside the square. Below are some examples what one can dream up while doodling in the art room.
Year 11 Visual Art (Level One NCEA)
Year 11 students have been working on producing a body of work that has taken them on a journey of discovery exploring early Renaissance drawing styles to modern day New Zealand painters and their techniques. Students who complete this Unit Standard will gain 6 Level One credits. There has been a great range of individual styles emerging from this term's work and students have had the chance to explore many different mark-making and practical art-making techniques, from simple charcoal and pencil drawings to mixed media and printmaking. Below are some images of students' works in progress. ![]() Amy Pike ![]() Morgan-Skye Brinfield

Year 12 Visual Art Students in Year 12 are attempting their first Unit Standard of the year, worth 9 credits. They are creating a body of work based around a Maori proverb. The proverb "Whatungarongaro he tangata toitu he whenua - people may come and people may go but the land remains" gives students lots of scope to explore their own relationship with the land. Below are a few examples of the work being generated by the students. They have been encouraged to explore lots of different combinations of media for this project and this has produced some pleasing results. Design Photography
