At Tararua College, we believe every student's pathway through the curriculum should be purposeful, well-informed, and suited to their strengths and aspirations.
In Years 9 and 10, students follow a broad Junior Diploma programme designed to build strong foundations across the key learning areas while beginning to explore subjects that spark their interests, from the arts and technology to our primary industries and digital courses. Progress is tracked closely, with regular feedback through reports, the KAMAR Parent Portal, and learning conversations with whānau.
From Year 11, students move into the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA), choosing a mix of core and optional subjects that align with their goals for further study, training, or employment. Our Senior Choices booklets, published each year for Level 1 and Level 2, set out the full range of courses on offer and the credits and pathways attached to each.
We're strong believers that no student should choose a course of study in isolation. Subject selection is a conversation between the student, their whānau, subject teachers, and Deans, so that every choice is the right one for that young person's future.
Browse the course information below to find out more about what's on offer at each year level, or get in touch with our Deans if you'd like guidance on planning a pathway.
